Pipe Insulation Shields

Pipe Insulation Shields are installed under the pipe insulation at each clevis hanger or strut clamp to protect the pipe insulation and to evenly disperse the weight of the pipe at each hanger point.  Pipe Shields are made from carbon steel coated with an Electro-Galvanized finish.  Insulation protection shields should be used in conjunction with pipe insulation supports such as Fiberglass H-Blocks or Pipe Support Pegs to avoid insulation compression. 

The insulation shields have rounded/flared ends which prevent the ASJ insulation jacket from being punctured during install or seismic motion while installed.

SIZING: Pipe Insulation Shields are designed to fit the outer diameter of the pipe insulation installed on the pipe.  Our sizing chart provides the proper shield size to order for each pipe size and insulation thickness available on our site.  When ordering shields please keep in mind that the size of the clevis hangers or strut clamp must be large enough to fit the larger outer diameter of the new pipe insulation.  

INSTALL: The installation of pipe insulation shields is relatively simple. The pipe shields simply pop onto the lower half of the pipe insulation at the hanger/strut point.  Because the shields may fit snug on the pipe insulation installing and then sliding the shield into place may be difficult.  It is best to have the pipe raised first and then center the shield inside the hanger/strut before popping it fully onto the pipe insulation.  To learn more about our thermal and plumbing pipe protector saddles, double check sizing, and/or discuss how they are installed, contact us today!

*Please Note that the chart shows size 5.0, however that size is not made.  Please use 5.5 instead which will fit inside a 5" IPS Clevis Hanger.
