INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This instructional article will provide a step by step guide to how to insulate a pipe fitting (90°, 45°, Tee, etc) with a Speedline PVC fitting cover.  The guide will provide steps for insulating a fitting on a hot piping system as well as a cold piping system.  When dealing with a dual temperature system, it is recommended to follow the cold piping system instructions.

HOT PIPING SYSTEM PVC FITTING INSTALL:

Step 1:  Install fiberglass pipe insulation on both sides of the pipe fitting prior to beginning install of the PVC Fitting Cover.  If the pipe fitting is screwed (raised above the adjoining pipe) make sure the pipe insulation butts up to the raised part of the fitting on both sides.  Each PVC Fitting Cover (90°, 45°, Tee) comes with a fiberglass insert.  A fiberglass insert is a soft low density fiberglass blanket which is die-cut into a diamond or square.  Wrap the fiberglass insert around the pipe fitting so the entire fitting is fully covered by insulation.  Make sure not to compress the insulation and allow it to fill the entire void.

Step 2: Place the PVC Fitting Cover over the fiberglass insert.  The fiberglass insert material should expand to touch the PVC Fitting Cover.

Step 3: Adjust the PVC Fitting Cover so that the cover is centered over the fitting and that both ends fall squarely on the adjacent fiberglass pipe insulation.  The inner throat of the cover should have an ample overlap which falls flat.  If the overlap is torqued or raised on one end, make the necessary adjustments to make it fall flat.

Step 4: Seal the PVC Fitting Cover with either PVC Tacks (2 tacks on inner overlap) or seal with white PVC Vinyl Tape.  On steam systems, the use of tacks is recommended as the adhesive of the PVC Tape may come undone over time.

COLD PIPING SYSTEM PVC FITTING INSTALL:

Apply vapor sealing mastic on the adjacent pipe insulation or PVC Jacket.

Step 2: Place the PVC Fitting Cover over the fiberglass insert. The fiberglass insert material should expand to touch the PVC Fitting Cover.  Apply mastic to the overlapping throat piece prior to closure.

Step 4: Seal the PVC Fitting Cover with white PVC Vinyl Tape.

*Creating a vapor barrier seal with the PVC Fitting Cover is the key to properly insulating a fitting on a cold system.
