Metacaulk Fire Rated Mortar is a specially formulated rapid hardening gypsum/cement compound. The product provides the optimum combination of workability, strength, and fire resistance. When mixed with water to a suitable consistency, this refractory mortar sets without shrinking and can form a rigid, gas tight, fire resistant seal. It can easily be cut or drilled and resealed if future penetrants are needed. No special tools are required to mix or install the product. Metacaulk Fire Rated Mortar systems are rated for up to 4 hours and has been tested in accordance with ASTM E 814 (UL 1479) and ULC-S115-95 test standards. Metacaulk heat resistant mortar is protected in a wet stage as well as in a dry stage against mold growth with a combination of biocides.

    Good cheap firestop

Posted by Fred R. on 20th Feb 2019

This mortar is a cheap way to fill large holes in fire rated floors. We wetdrill out large cores in poured concrete flooring and run pipe risers from floor to floor. Because the holes were so big it was costly to add firestop caulk, so we switched to this mortar. Fasten corrugated deck or metal plate up to the bottom of the opening and slop in this mortar and smooth out around the pipes. Cheap way to pass inspection.
