Fiberglass woven tape is commonly used to insulate and seal boiler fire dampers, boiler joints, and gasket seals. Fiberglass tape can be used on extremely hot pipes before fiberglass pipe insulation is installed to lower the surface temperature of the pipe. For personnel safety, fiberglass tape can be wrapped around a high temperature (up to 1,000F) pipe to prevent employees from burning themselves when they bump into or touch the pipe.
The fiberglass tape should be spiraled around the pipe making sure to overlap itself to prevent gaps. It is recommended to loop or tie the end of the tape onto the beginning of the pipe to allow a tight spiral. When finished cut the tape with a knife or scissor and loop or tie the tape to the pipe.
Rated for use on applications up to 1000F.
Each roll is 100 feet long and the tape is 1/16" thick. Fiberglass tape comes in 1", 1-1/2", and 2" widths.
*Note: This material does not have an adhesive backing as the term "tape" would imply. It is referred to as "tape" because it is flat compared to fiberglass rope which is round.
